Red cohosh is more remarkable for its berries than its flowers.
Its flowers are small and grow in clusters at the ends of the stems. Its fruits, on the other hand, are beautiful, glossy red berries that attract attention, but they should absolutely not be eaten because they are toxic. In fact, all parts of the plant are poisonous. If ingested in sufficient quantities, they can even cause death. Symptoms of poisoning include headaches, dizziness, vomiting, cramps, and diarrhea. In fact, a synonym attributed to this plant is snake poison.
