About lavender

Latin name | Lavandula officinalis, lavandula angustifolia
Common name | True lavender, common lavender
Family | Lamiaceae (Mint family)

True lavender, or Lavandula angustifolia, is a bushy, perennial, aromatic shrub with mauve flowers that can reach 1 meter in height in the fields. Increasingly harvested in Quebec fields, this plant has adapted well to our gardens despite Quebec's temperatures.

Long used by the Romans to perfume clothes and baths, lavender is a true classic. The word lavender comes from the Latin word lavare, meaning "to wash," which is why people also used it in laundry water.

The lavender will flower later in 2025, probably around mid-July.

These dates are approximate and may vary depending on the season. Note that flowering in September is gentler and more delicate.

Passion for well-being

Lavender is used for its medicinal and therapeutic properties. Among other things, it serves as an analgesic and antiseptic. Lavender helps you relax before bedtime, soothes insect bites, and heals burns and cuts. This small purple plant, growing in the heart of our lavender fields, promotes relaxation and sleep, ideal for today's hectic lifestyle. A visit to our gardens is a must to discover these beautiful products that come directly from our lavender fields.

Everyday Lavender Passion

Lavender is used in three ways: its essential oil, its flowers (seeds), and its floral water, all products sourced from our lavender gardens. The essential oil is the most widely used of the three, as it is present in the majority of our products for its beneficial properties and its intoxicating scent, reminiscent of a visit to our lavender fields. Lavender flowers are primarily used in food as a seasoning and in infusions. They are also used in drawer sachets to leave a pleasant fragrance in our closets. The floral water is used as an astringent on facial blemishes, as well as to refresh the skin and soothe the itching caused by insect bites. Lavender essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy contributes to health and well-being through the use of various essential oils.

Passion for culture in our fields

The fields surrounding Passion Lavande contain a variety of crops that complement our lavender garden beautifully. Our fields are prepared in the spring, laid out as large garden plots. Each new plot is then planted by hand, and the older ones are partially renewed to maintain a consistent number of beautiful lavender plants. Throughout the summer, our fields are tended to encourage the growth of our lovely lavender and maximize its flowering in July. Around mid-July, the lavender is harvested by hand to allow for a second bloom in September. Following the field harvest comes autumn. At this time of year, our lavender gardens are ready to be covered for winter. Now all that remains is to wait for winter to pass and see our small lavender garden bloom again in the spring.
